Kreismuseum Prinzeßhof

Exhibition "Friedel Anderson. From friends and companions"

In 1991, the first solo exhibition of works by Friedel Anderson took place at the Prinzeßhof District Museum in Itzehoe as part of the awarding of the Steinburg District Cultural Promotion Prize. Now, 33 years later, he is returning to the Kreismuseum with an exhibition to mark his 70th birthday. The idea for the exhibition “Von Freunden und Wegbegleitern” (Of friends and companions) was the brainchild of Anderson, who can now look back on five decades as a freelance painter. During this time, encounters with other artists have led to a lively exchange, in some cases collaboration and, with some, a lasting friendship. Friedel Anderson, himself a passionate collector, has amassed many works by renowned artists whom he holds in high esteem over the decades. These include Manfred Bluth, who was his teacher at the Gesamthochschule in Kassel, Otto Beckmann, Falko Behrendt, Hinnerk Bodendieck, Rudolf Distler, Johannes Grützke, Lucia Figueroa, Klaus Fußmann, Frauke Gloyer, Dieter Joachim Jessel, Hans-Ruprecht Leiss, Augustin M.S. Noffke, Jens Rusch, Wolfram Scheffel, Manfred Sihle-Wissel, Nikolaus Störtenbecker, Wolfgang Werkmeister and others.

On the anniversary of his 70th birthday, Anderson’s favorite pieces from his art collection will be presented to the public for the first time at the Prinzeßhof District Museum – works by numerous artists from northern Germany. The catalog accompanying the exhibition is filled with personal words and memories of these artists and other companions. This shows how much Friedel Anderson is appreciated – both as an artist and as a person.
