The motto of this year’s action week is “New Spaces”.

Encounter, contact and topics such as racism and flight are at the center of Intercultural Week (IKW) 2023. With around 5,000 events in more than 500 communities in Germany, the diversity of society is celebrated – also in the Steinburg district. Around 30 events offer a colorful program in Itzehoe, Glückstadt, Horst, Kellinghusen and Hohenlockstedt from September 23 to October 1.

The Intercultural Week is an initiative of the German Bishops’ Conference, the EKD and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis and has been held every year since 1975 at the end of September. The IKW is supported and co-sponsored by churches, municipalities, welfare associations, trade unions, integration advisory boards and commissioners, migrant organizations, religious communities and initiative groups. There are about 5,000 events in more than 600 cities and towns.
