Heiligenstedten Castle is actually a manor house and was built in 1769 in Nordic Baroque style on a sturgeon island. It was surrounded by an impressive English landscape park. In 1851 – 1853 the baroque ensemble was raised and remodeled in the neo-Gothic style.
Its history in the 20th century is very eventful – furniture and library were auctioned and can be seen in part in Husum Castle. Today, Heiligenstedten Castle is privately owned.
